drugstore dupes for fall

Fall.  Autumn.  Sweater Weather.  Holiday Season.  How many other words do we associate with fall?  Makeup.  Yes, makeup.  This is the season where brands come up with their new products and limited edition colors.  The limited edition and holiday special gets me every time. I think I have every limited edition, exclusive to Ulta sets from Tarte, Lorac, and Stila.  But before I head to Ulta or Sephora, I’m going to the drugstore and grabbing some of my favorite fall makeup and skincare dupes.

3 Reasons Why Tea Tree Oil is AMAZING for Your Skin

My cousin (who loves all things organic and natural) introduced me to tea tree oil when I was in middle school.  I started getting zits and blackheads when I was in 6th grade.  She suggested that I use this Chinese herbal serum infused with tea tree oil.  The serum smelled gross to my Middle School self.  It smelled like the gross herbal supplements my mom always made me drink because “it’s good for me.”  I still wonder how something that tastes that bitter can actually be good for me because all I want to do is gag while I chug the hot herbal tea.

But that’s not what we’re here to discuss.  Let me give you 5 good reasons to why YOU should add tea tree oil to your daily routine.

1. It calms and soothes your skin.
Let’s be real.  We put a whole lot of crap on to our skin (like makeup) and sometimes even food gets on there or that drop of toothpaste that drips out of your mouth as you brush your teeth.  Or when you go outside for long periods of time that much sun can damage your skin and expose it to all the pollution that is floating in the air.  All of that can irritate your skin on a daily basis.  So, why not treat your skin with care and pamper it a little.
Tea tree calms your skin much like green tea.  It also cools your skin, reducing any type of redness on your face.  Once the tea tree oil is absorbed, your skin feels instantly smoother and softer.  Your skin will look like its glowing from within!  And who wouldn’t want that?

2. It reduces acne.
Everybody has experienced the dreaded zit on their face.  We all know that it’s not pleasant.  That little red dot is sore and painful and makes us feel like EVERYONE we meet is ONLY looking at the zit and not us.  Regular use of tea tree oil can help fight and prevent acne.  The anti-bacterial properties in tea tree oil kills acne-causing bacteria, leaving your pores clean and your skin blemish-free.

3. It gently exfoliates your skin.
Exfoliating can be painful sometimes with those rough grains and micro-beads, irritating your skin even more.  But tea tree oil, naturally exfoliates the skin without any beads or sugar.  Tea tree oil gently removes dead skin as you massage the oil or serum on to your face.  This gently process is great for people with sensitive skin!

The Perfect Dupe for The Tarte Amazonian Clay 12 hour Full Coverage Foundation

I have been in love with the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation for almost two years now.  It is still one of my holy grail make-up products.  Ever since I saw Jenn Im from ClothesEncounters mention this foundation in one of her favorites, I knew I had to pick it up.

Jenn Im’s style, makeup, and hair is ALWAYS on point.  So, I knew I would not regret this purchase.  Tarte’s Amazonian Clay foundation was the second brand name foundation I had EVER purchased.  About three years ago, I started playing with makeup and began using a ton of drugstore brands such as Covergirl and Physicians Formula.  I went through five compacts of Physician Formula’s organic wear translucent powder and I don’t even know how many Covergirl mascaras.

I wanted to see why people willingly shell out $40, $50, and sometimes even $80 for foundation.  After I tried the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation, I understood.  The Amazonian Clay foundation stays on your face- it does not fade or break up throughout the day, leaving you looking patchy and cakey.  Plus, the smooth, mousse like texture makes it easy to apply and blend all over the face and down the neck.

If you love the Tarte Amazonian Clay foundation, then you will love the Ulta Double Duty Primer and Foundation.  It has a similar texture, application, and staying power as the Tarte foundation.  The Ulta foundation is only $5!  Plus, the Ulta foundation is oil free, paraben free, and fragrance free.  What more could you need?

To apply these two foundations, I love using my real techniques foundation brush.  The brush has a slightly dome shape with soft, thick bristles that won’t leave your face looking streaky.  It blends the mousse like foundation very easily and never makes your face look cakey.

Do you have any makeup dupes?  If so, I would love to know!
