3 Reasons Why Tea Tree Oil is AMAZING for Your Skin

My cousin (who loves all things organic and natural) introduced me to tea tree oil when I was in middle school.  I started getting zits and blackheads when I was in 6th grade.  She suggested that I use this Chinese herbal serum infused with tea tree oil.  The serum smelled gross to my Middle School self.  It smelled like the gross herbal supplements my mom always made me drink because “it’s good for me.”  I still wonder how something that tastes that bitter can actually be good for me because all I want to do is gag while I chug the hot herbal tea.

But that’s not what we’re here to discuss.  Let me give you 5 good reasons to why YOU should add tea tree oil to your daily routine.

1. It calms and soothes your skin.
Let’s be real.  We put a whole lot of crap on to our skin (like makeup) and sometimes even food gets on there or that drop of toothpaste that drips out of your mouth as you brush your teeth.  Or when you go outside for long periods of time that much sun can damage your skin and expose it to all the pollution that is floating in the air.  All of that can irritate your skin on a daily basis.  So, why not treat your skin with care and pamper it a little.
Tea tree calms your skin much like green tea.  It also cools your skin, reducing any type of redness on your face.  Once the tea tree oil is absorbed, your skin feels instantly smoother and softer.  Your skin will look like its glowing from within!  And who wouldn’t want that?

2. It reduces acne.
Everybody has experienced the dreaded zit on their face.  We all know that it’s not pleasant.  That little red dot is sore and painful and makes us feel like EVERYONE we meet is ONLY looking at the zit and not us.  Regular use of tea tree oil can help fight and prevent acne.  The anti-bacterial properties in tea tree oil kills acne-causing bacteria, leaving your pores clean and your skin blemish-free.

3. It gently exfoliates your skin.
Exfoliating can be painful sometimes with those rough grains and micro-beads, irritating your skin even more.  But tea tree oil, naturally exfoliates the skin without any beads or sugar.  Tea tree oil gently removes dead skin as you massage the oil or serum on to your face.  This gently process is great for people with sensitive skin!

The ASK 5k in RVA

This morning I woke up at 7AM.  Now, I know what you’re thinking.  It’s Saturday, why aren’t you sleeping in?  And on most Saturdays that couldn’t be more true.  Saturday morning is the morning where you wake up and realize I don’t have class today.  You wake up with a smile, make some breakfast, check your email, go on Twitter, and check your Instagram.

I may have been a little tired this morning and super tired now, but I woke up with a smile on my face because I’m running for a good cause.  I love doing charity and in the midst of final exams, school, work, and internships, I forgot how much I miss doing charity work.  That good feeling that you get from your tired muscles after knowing that you did something good.

I ran the ASK 5k in 2012, 2013, and this year.  I couldn’t go last year because I had a forensics and debate trip that same weekend.  But after watching Bubzbeauty’s teespring campaign and buy that super cute I’m a Unicorn shirt, I knew that I wanted to get back in the habit of doing charity work.  I know finding a job is important, but sometimes its good to lend a helping hand, to get your hands dirty, and your body going.

When I got to the Diamond this morning, where the ASK 5K and fun walk is located.  I looked around and smiled at the sea of people that came to run.  There were families running in memory of a loved one and runners with a good heart.  There are so many children affected by cancer.  And with this one race, we can help make their lives better.  The ASK 5K in Richmond raised $148,448 so far!

My leg muscles are aching and I can feel them shaking as I walk up the stairs.  But I’m happy (and severely out of shape).  Despite my slow pace, I still finished the race in 36 minutes.  (That may be really slow for some people, but keep in mind I haven’t really worked out in months!)

I know already my legs will hurt tomorrow but knowing that my achey muscles and fundraised money will help make a child’s day, makes it all worthwhile.

RVA Fall Fashion Weekend OOTN

I went to my first fashion show this past Saturday and I fell in love with everything from the show to the music.  Everything was perfect except the part where I had to pay $9 for parking because I did not receive a parking voucher from the people at the check-in desk.  Nine dollars is a lot for a college student.  That is a meal!  Ok, I’m done.   I could rant on and on, but I’m going to spare you guys the agony.

Any way, I got to the show super early like right when the doors opened at 7:00PM because I have never driven to Haxall Point before and wanted to give myself some extra time just in case I got lost.  Because a genius like me can get lost with a GPS.  Yeah, I know I got skills.  Luckily,
I didn’t get lost and arrived at the parking deck half past six and just admired the sunset from my car.  The sunset was absolutely, breathtakingly beautiful.  The orange and pink hues swirled in harmony and contrasted the tall angular buildings and reflected off the rippling waves of the James.

At 6:45PM, I decided to get out of the car and make my way towards the elevator.  I quickly found out that I had no idea where the elevator was.  So, after walking three flights of stairs in platform wedges and through the dark, rather empty parking deck, I found an elevator.  I pushed the little button and it began to glow red around the edges.  I nervously waited for the familiar ding to signal the elevator had arrived on my floor and got in to the gold mirrored elevator.  I pushed the floor to the Lobby and waited for the elevator to arrive on my floor.  Why I didn’t film this?  I have no idea.  Maybe, because I suck at vlogging?  Hopefully, I’ll get better at it.

Alright, so here was what I wore.  I chose this outfit via text with my bestie.  Because it being my first fashion show, I had no idea what I was going to wear and had the “oh my god, I have nothing to wear moment.”  I took a few deep breaths and opened the doors to my horribly disorganized closet and found some pieces that I am currently obsessed with!  I’m pretty sure you don’t want to hear about the 2 hour process, so I’ll skip to what I actually wore Saturday night.
