New Drugstore Releases You HAVE to try (Seriously, go buy it and they are WORTH the Hype!)

I used to believe that drugstore products were second to higher end brands such as Tarte or Urban Decay. But Tati from GlamLifeGuru and Kathleen from KathleenLights have changed my mind.  Now, drugstores are treasure coves of unexplored makeup. And there’s always new drugstore releases and displays at CVS, Walgreens, Ulta, and Rite Aid.  (Which is super exciting!)

So, when I got the chance to try out Revlon’s new highlighter and blush duo.  I knew I had to jump on it!

And I have to say that these new drugstore releases seriously proved me wrong.  Revlon’s highlighter and blush duo is now my go-to product for a natural and healthy flush of color.

Review of Revlon Highlighter and Blush Duo

new drugstore releases Revlon highlight and blush duo photoready primer

These two cream sticks are the perfect combination for a flawless and natural look.  I have the Revlon Blush and Highlighter DUO in Medium which gives you the blush in NUDE Kiss and the highlight in Gold Light.

The blush blends beautifully in to the skin and the highlighter has the perfect amount of shimmer! And what I really love about the highlighter is that it doesn’t have chunks of glitter in it! For this reason, the highlighter looks super luxurious and high-end.  The texture of this highlighter is very similar to the Marc Jacobs glow stick but the color is a little more golden than the Marc Jacobs highlighter stick.

Plus, the blush is very similar in texture and consistency to the Makeup Forever HD blushes (which I’m currently obsessed with!). The Revlon blush in to the skin beautifully just like the Makeup Forever one.  I’m in love!  I definitely need to pick up more colors. And if you want to pick these things up, go now because the highlight and blush duo are limited edition!  However, you can buy them separately at CVS.

Now, whenever I see new drugstore releases from Revlon, I need to buy the whole display (LOL)!

Review of Revlon PhotoReady Primer

I have been a long-time user of Smashbox PhotoFinish Primer. BUT this one might take the cake.

I’ve also tried the Benefit That Gal Primer, which was recommended by BubzBeauty and I’d buy anything she recommends so…

Anyway, the Benefit That Gal primer is a brightening primer and leaves your skin with a natural glow.  Which is exactly what the Revlon PhotoReady Primer does!  Do I dare say its a dupe?

I’d say, “YES IT IS!” The Revlon PhotoReady Primer is not as pink as the That Gal primer but it still leaves your skin with a nice glow and subtle shimmer.

How To Save Money On New Drugstore Releases

CVS Extrabucks are LIFE!  Seriously, you can buy one product, get Extrabucks for your purchase, and use those Extrabucks on your next transaction!  So it literally pays to separate your transactions!

It’s insanely awesome! If you want to learn more, stay tuned for a new blog post!

7 Drugstore Dupes You Have to Try This Fall

drugstore dupes for fall

Fall.  Autumn.  Sweater Weather.  Holiday Season.  How many other words do we associate with fall?  Makeup.  Yes, makeup.  This is the season where brands come up with their new products and limited edition colors.  The limited edition and holiday special gets me every time. I think I have every limited edition, exclusive to Ulta sets from Tarte, Lorac, and Stila.  But before I head to Ulta or Sephora, I’m going to the drugstore and grabbing some of my favorite fall makeup and skincare dupes.

Top 5 UK Drugstore Makeup Products

Amazon and Asos are my favorite stores to buy UK Drugstore products.  After seeing Zoe from Zoella and Louise from Sprinkle of Glitter rave about the Rimmel London Wake Me Up Foundation and Concealer, I knew I had to try it.  So, I went on to Amazon.com and bought the concealer.  I was so excited for the concealer to arrive.  And when I opened the package, I knew it.  I bought the wrong color.  I bought the medium color and it was way too dark.  Now, I use that concealer as a contour shade around my nose, temples, and jawline.  Before going to Canada, I started making a list of drugstore products I needed to get my hands on.   Lucky enough, I found all of them at the drugstore near my hotel room.  I spent over $60 US dollars at that drugstore. But it was totally worth it.

For foundation and concealer color references:

  • I am in the color Natural 4 for Bobbi Brown’s Skin foundation.
  • Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation Light Medium Sand
  • NARS Radiant Creamy Concealer Medium Custard
  • Light/Medium in most BB and CC creams

1. Rimmel London Wake me Up Foundation and Concealer
In Canada, I bought the Rimmel London Wake Me Foundation and Concealer in soft beige and very fair.  I wanted the concealer to be quite light because I like to use my concealer to brighten up the eyes and as a subtle highlighter on my cheeks and the bridge of my nose.  The Rimmel London foundation never looks cakey and feels really light on the skin.  I love how easy this foundation blends too!  It’s a great light to medium coverage foundation.

2. Rimmel London Kate Moss Matte and Satin lipstick
I love the Rimmel London Kate Moss lipsticks.  They have a great formula that is super smooth and soft.  There lipsticks are also quite hydrating with great color payoff.  I would have bought the Kate Moss lipsticks in RVA, but no matter which drugstore I go to, they are always sold out.  When I walked in to the drugstore in Montreal, I was in makeup heaven.  They had every color in the line and I had a blast testing out the colors.  Can you believe they actually let you try out the colors.  You never find that in drugstores here.
I have the Matte lipsticks in 107 (a deep burgundy color) and 101 (a bright pink color).

3. Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation and Concealer
For a light foundation, I highly recommend getting the Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation.  The Serum in this foundation does make it dry really quick, so work quickly.  Don’t take your time dabbing on the foundation and waiting to blend.
I never had a problem with this foundation breaking up on me or getting cakey.  This foundation also gives the skin a nice glow, similar to the Rimmel London Wake Me Up foundation.  My skin never feels stripped or dry when I remove my foundation at the end of the day.  This serum doesn’t dry out my skin or cause breakouts.  I honestly feel like the serum in this foundation is actually healing my skin, leaving it more even-toned and more radiant.  I bought this foundation and concealer in light beige and apricot.

4. Soap and Glory Scrub Your Nose In It Detox Scrub
The clogged pores around my t-zone are the hardest things to get rid of.  I am super oily around my t-zone, so they are constantly getting clogged.  I love Biore pore strips but if I use that too often, my nose starts peeling.  The Soap and Glory Detox Scrub leaves my skin feeling clean.  When I apply the scrub to my nose, my face starts feeling tingly.  After scrubbing for two minutes, my pores are clean and my skin feels cool.  I love it!
Sometimes, when my nose feels super clogged, I scrub my nose with the detox scrub to loosen up the pores.  Then, I apply a pore strip after I wash off the scrub.  This two step system really cleans out my pores.  To prevent my newly cleans pores from clogging up again, I quickly apply a toner and serum all over my face.

5. Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean Cleanser
When I ran out of makeup wipes, I sighed and took a look at my stash of cleansers.  The Soap and Glory Peaches and Clean Cleanser caught my eye. I remember Tati from YouTube recommending this cleanser for makeup removal.  So, I grabbed the bottle and tried it out.  I fell in love.  This cleanser smells like Peaches and Cream and instantly dissolves my makeup away, leaving my face feeling clean (and NOT stripped!).  After one use, I was in love!

Top 10 US Drugstore Makeup Products

Don’t get me wrong.  I love high-end makeup products.  BUT it can get really expensive.  As a recent college graduate, I try to save money wherever I can.  So, here’s a list of my top 5 makeup products from the drugstore:

1. Covergirl Supersizer Waterproof Mascara
Drugstore mascaras are amazing and seriously deserve more recognition.  My current favorite is the Covergirl Supersizer Mascara in waterproof.  I loved the regular Covergirl Supersizer mascara formula but after a full day of work, my mascara will start flaking.  So, I decided to try out the waterproof version and it was amazing.  This stuff does not budge and my lashes look fabulous!  Plus, the waterproof version can really hold a curl.

2. Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid Liner
I completely suck at eye liner.  I cannot draw a straight line to save my life.  But the Covergirl Intensify Me Liquid liner has a angled tip that makes it super easy for me to draw that perfect cat eye. I used to use the Ulta liquid liner in Onyx, but that liner flakes off after just a few hours of wear.  While my covergirl liner never smudged or flaked off.

3. Pacifica Beauty Eyeshadows
These eye shadows are so smooth!  Pacifica Beauty Eyeshadows also blend like a dream.  Their makeup products are also cruelty free and vegan!  These shadows also have great pigmentation! For $20 a palette, I can’t get enough of them!

4. Pacifica Beauty Coco Pure Makeup Removing Wipes
I know I should take the time to cleanse me face with a good cleansing balm or oil, but after a full day of work, I just don’t feel up to it.  These makeup wipes from Pacifica Beauty smell amazing!  It’s like a tropical vacation in every package.  These wipes don’t irritate my skin or my eyes and it removes it all, including that stubborn waterproof mascara!

5. NYX jumbo eye pencils
Ever since I saw Jenn Im from Clothesencounters use the NYX jumbo eye pencil in Yogurt, I knew I had to get it.  I was super impressed with the product.  Right not, Ulta is having a buy one get one 50% off sale!  These eye pencils apply really smooth and have great color payoff!  Plus, it’s only $5! I have these pencils in yogurt and milk!

6. NYX soft matte lip creams
I have wanted to buy the soft matte lip cream in Copenhagen for almost a year now, but every time I go to Ulta it’s sold out.  I love the soft matte lip creams because they aren’t as drying as other matte lipsticks I have tried.  And they have great staying power.  It’s honestly like a lip stain.  I love them!  I have the colors: Prague, Tokyo, and Sydney.

7. Rimmel London Eye Makeup Remover
I used this makeup remover every night until I ran out of cotton pads.  I have tried other eye makeup removers before, but they always seemed to irritate my eyes.  This makeup remover by Rimmel London is gentle and super effective against waterproof mascara.  Two swipes of this stuff over my eyes and all the makeup is gone!

8. Rimmel London Matte foundation
I have combination skin.  It gets super oily, especially in the summer months. So, I am always looking for a matte finish foundation that won’t break apart.  The problem I have with many matte finish foundations is that they seem to break apart around my t-zone, making me look splotchy and flaky (which is not a good look).  As I was browsing the makeup aisles in Target, I saw this matte foundation on sale for $4.50.  I thought, “why not?” and picked it up.  I tried it the next day and fell in love.  My face still needed to be blotted after four hours of wear, but the foundation did not break apart.  Just a few blots with my clean and clear blotting sheet and my face looked just as good as it did that morning.

9. Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow Stick
This Rimmel London Scandal Eyes Eyeshadow stick is just as creamy and smooth as the NYX jumbo eye pencil.  What I like about this eyeshadow stick is the size.  This Rimmel London Eyeshadow stick has a finer tip and really lets me highlight those inner corners and create a subtle smoky eyeliner look.

10. NYX butter lip balm
I am a sucker for Ulta’s BOGO 50% off sales.  My lips get super chapped in the winter and when I go to class, I’m usually not wearing any makeup.  I like to brighten up my face by highlighting the inner corners of my eyes and add a little color to my lips.  But most of my lipsticks were way too drying to apply in the winter.  I went in to Ulta to find a tinted lip balm and when I saw that they had a huge BOGO 50% off sale with NYX products.  And I knew I had to BUY IT ALL!   I bought another matte lip cream (which I probably didn’t need) and a butter lip balm (which is what I went in to buy) and a few other eyeshadow sticks and blotting sheets and the list goes on…
