The TWO Ingredients That Cleared Up My Cystic Acne

Okay, these ingredients are not miracle workers.  It took weeks before I saw any results.  But after using Sulfur and Benzoyl Peroxide.  The combination of these two chemicals cleared up my skin.  I no longer have painful, pus-filled pimples.  I get the occasional red bumps now and then BUT I never get those huge painful cysts on my face anymore.

After trying five different acne medications and topical creams, my dermatologist finally found the perfect combination to clear up my acne.  She gave me a sulfur cleanser and Epiduo to clear up my skin.  I have been using these two ingredients for years now.  The combination of these two products kept my skin clear for weeks.  I still get the occasional zit but I NEVER get those same painful bumps from before.

Epdiuo contains benzoyl peroxide which is a popular acne-fighting ingredient.  Other acne fighting medications such as retinol or salicylic acid does not work on my cystic acne at all.  But the small amount of Benzoyl Peroxide in Epiduo is just enough to clear up those spots and not dry out my skin.

My sulfur cleanser is amazing.  Sulfur helps the skin heal quicker and kills the bacteria that can lead to future breakouts.  Sulfur is super gentle and does not dry out my skin.  Plus, sulfur makes my skin less oily, further preventing future breakouts.  Excess oil or sebum production can lead to clogged pores and more breakouts.  Sulfur is a great acne-fighting ingredient for those with sensitive skin.

To get my clear skin, I had to use the sulfur cleanser every morning and every night.  I used Epiduo every night.  If I felt a spot coming or already had a spot, Epiduo would reduce the size and redness of the spot overnight.  I NEVER had those pesky whiteheads or clogged pores again.  I even noticed my blackheads beginning to disappear about a month in to the treatment.  Sulfur and Benzoyl Peroxide gave my skin a fighting chance.  I can’t get over how soft and smooth my skin is!

Stay tuned for my next post, where I will show you what drugstore treatments contain these amazing ingredients.

DISCLAIMER: I am NOT a dermatologist.  I am just sharing what worked for me and how I cleared up my skin.  If these ingredients work for you too, great!  But if they don’t there are so many other options out there.

How to Find the Perfect Cage Belt for YOUR Style

At first glance, cage belts look quite intimidating like they someone just went back in time to Medieval times and stole the queen’s belt.  But designers have transformed this harsh style in to something classic and elegant.  I would never have thought I could successfully style a cage belt without looking like a cartoon character.

A cage belt that is classic in design with a minimalist style or even some pastel colors can look really cute paired with a loose dress or a maxi skirt.  The belt give the dress some edge while also giving you a great figure!  Win-win situation!

When looking at cage belts, I usually opt for one that has three or less belt buckles because I find that the more belt buckles the belt has, the bulkier it looks.  I want the belt to cinch me in, not add more bulk.  For color, I usually look for belts that have two tones because the belt looks less edgy and harsh with multiple colors or textures.

I love this belt I got from Ann Taylor, a few summers ago.  It’s the perfect caged belt because the bright pop of pink really creates a fun vibe that is not often found on caged belts.  Plus, the woven texture on the belt creates a cute boho vibe that is perfect for the summer!

I styled my belt with this loose white dress from Dresslink.  This outfit is 100% festival ready!  For a more fall appropriate outfit, you can style a cage belt with a loose dress with long sleeves.  It’ll give you a great boho vibe.  Just finish your outfit off with the perfect fringe bag and you will look like you just walked off the cover of a magazine!
